Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
This is a lung disease that can make it very hard to breathe.
This is usually caused by smoking.

COPD can be a combination of chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
  • Chronic bronchitis: The bronchial tubes get inflamed and produce a lot of mucus.  This will narrow or even block the airways which will make it hard for you to breathe.
  • Emphysema: The air sacs become damaged making it harder to move air in and out.  This causes you to feel short of breath.
COPD is almost always caused by smoking.  This condition can worsen with time.  Steps should be taken to prevent more damage to your lungs.
